Our Halloween Day in Review

First up, to the zoo! A baby elephant recently joined the family of animals at Oregon Zoo, and we were anxious to check him out. Meet Sam...... I know, he is so awesome! At 500 lbs though, that wee little one isn't quite so wee and little as he looks. But unlike the majority of zoo residents, the elephants do more than lounge around all day. I could have watched them for hours.

Next, we went home to set up the porch for the trick-or-treaters. Dan wouldn't stand for any of my friendly decorations outside this year. So, bleeding skeleton fountain, howling ghost, strobe light, and bubbling witches brew were among the less-friendly allowables. There were a few little mini-kids that refused to ring our doorbell! We had an impressive total of 308 kids visit us!

And of course, the night wouldn't be complete without a few rounds of trick-or-treating. The kids walked home for random breaks, then ended up sorting their loot, playing around, running to the door when the doorbell rang, etc. What is wrong with them?! I had the stamina of Balboa, and would never do such a thing as a kid. Every minute on Halloween night was put to good candy-collecting use! I suppose the difference may be that we lived in the sticks and only had 6 neighbors within walking distance. So we had to wait for dad to get home from work, then wait (forever!) for our parents to drive us to the same 2 streets every year. Still wasn't enough for me though, so I'd try to sneak across the street and get more candy at the neighboring apartment building.

Good thing you were prepared with lots of candy. We went out with Ben and Angie and all these people had signs on their door that they were out of candy at 6:30 pm. Weak sauce!

I can't believe you had that many trick-or-treaters! Your family looks great--how in the world did you get them all to look at the camera and smile at the same time? Maybe one day I'll finally learn the trick. Glad you had a great Halloween!

I don't think I would have rang your doorbell either. Your porch looks pretty sweet. And how on earth did you manage to carve that little pumpkin? I loved the costumes!
