Don't leave home without it

Our emergency preparedness specialist in our church ward gave us a challenge over conference weekend to get our 72-hour kits up to date. Getting us thinking about our preparedness led us to stage an emergency evacuation. After a brief explanation of what and why we were about to do what we were about to do, we simply said to the kids, "You have 5 minutes to grab what's important and get in the car." I set my timer, and off we all went.
Surprisingly, each of the older boys grabbed a blanket and some food: tortillas, peanut butter, honey, ritz crackers, bread, 2 mandarin oranges, and a block of cheese. Aside from screaming and yelling that they were going to die (which I thought added some realism and excitement!), they responded fairly well. I thought for sure we'd have a car packed with legos and light sabers!

This is hilarious. Oh my heavens...how funny. I personally would enjoy a block of cheese in an emergency. Well, anytime really.

What a great idea. We've got to try it! Although I'm pretty sure our car would be filled with Lego's and light sabers. And Disney Princesses. :)
