Stringing Along

Until recently, I hadn't played violin for anyone in a long time. These past two months have been unusually busy. I was invited to accompany a few different singing groups. The gentleman singing this Josh Groban song asked me to write a violin part to give the song more depth. My objective was to compliment what he was doing, not steal any of his thunder. In fact, I told the sound guy to bring the volume ratio of violin to singer to 25%/75%. At the audition for this concert, with just 4 judges in the audience, my heartbeat was racing and my arms shaking way too much for my liking. Thankfully, my nerves were more under control for the real deal. Time to play more often I guess, so I get more comfortable again! This is what we came up with. (Don't mind the big head that gets in the way partway through):

I played two different songs with a women's choir three weeks ago, then played a fiddle song for my Dad's talent show last week. Here's a clip of me trying to practice for it at home. Andrea was my audiovisual tech, and Trevor was my back-up singer:

A family friend approached me to put together a quartet for his daughter's wedding reception in May. Fun stuff! Oh, and last night I signed up to audition for an orchestra that will be playing Disney tunes with Jenny Oaks Baker in June. Here's a sample of what we'd be playing with her:

I loved listening to you play! The violin part your wrote for the Josh Groban song was perfect. Good luck on your audition!
