Fire Girls

Two other ladies and I turned up the heat and became hot chicks tonight, if only for a moment! Our significant others gifted us 8 hours of glass-blowing classes for Mother's day. We were definitely beginners, and I am amazed the instructor had us step right up to the plate without a couple of  practice swings. We were working with molten glass that looked like lava straight from the devil's backyard. Not a stitch of experience between the three of us, and it showed (especially in the video of our friend in pink)! We got better as the night grew on. I have a new perspective and greater appreciation for the time and skill needed to make something beautiful out of glass. I'll post pictures of my final projects in a couple weeks after my next class.
First picture shows the lava furnace where we dipped our metal sticks. Another picture is of a separate oven called the "glory hole" that was used in heating the glass back up after it cooled down too much. Next picture is of shaping the glass on a metal table. Last picture shows one of us using a wooden form to mold the glass into an egg shape. And now, some videos.
